I hope everyone had a great holiday and the 2015 is off to a great start! I have many professional and personal goals this year. My first professional goal is to create the most timeless and meaningful images I can. For me, this means moving more towards lifestyle photography. These are the types of photos I can see my clients cherishing for many years to come. They do not include fads, posing, or props that will soon be out of style or cliche. They will be shots of families, babies, and children as they are in real time everyday. They will include lots of play, baths, hugs and kisses, cooking in the kitchen, running outside, swimming, dancing, and everything else your family does on a daily basis. For me, these are the memories I want to capture. I want to remember all of these little moments. There is a saying that, “the days are long, but the years are short.” It is so true. As the mother of a toddler and an infant, sometimes I get so caught up in the hurry and exhaustion of everyday, that I miss all of these moments. Many nights I go to sleep and struggle to remember them. In my personal life, I am attempting to keep a happiness journal and to try to be more present. In my professional life, my goal is to help my clients remember those moments for many years to come. I will still be doing traditional portraits for high school seniors, as well as some family and milestones sessions. However, my newborn work will be almost exclusively lifestyle in nature. I have included a few of my favorite newborn lifestyle shots on this post. In addition to incorporating a more lifestyle approach to all my sessions, I will be offering a specific lifestyle package. These sessions will be held at your home or any location of your choice (indoors or outdoors) and will be all lifestyle in nature. No “posing” or real styling. These will be relatively low stress for parents as well, since kids just need to be kids. They just need to play, dance, sing, love, act silly, and be themselves. As with all of my sessions in 2015, all digital images will be provided in both color and black and white.
Another goal is to give back more. I would love to be able to offer photos to families who are facing serious illness or tragedy. This will be an ongoing mission for me, so if you have any families you would like to nominate, please get in touch with me.
I hope you are as excited as I am about the direction I will be heading this year. I think these changes are important for me to really express my style and artistic vision. As always, your business and support means the world to me. I am looking forward to meeting new clients and catching up with repeat clients, and capturing all of the special moments 2015 has to offer!
